Fact Not Fiction Films staff were saddened by the loss of one of aviations greatest pioneers in Nancy Bird Walton AO, OBE. Nancy Bird Walton sadly passed away today in Sydney at the age of 93.

Patron of the Australian Women Pilots’ Association (AWPA) and Australian National Living Treasure, Nancy Bird Walton was one of the main pilots featured in our recently completed feature documentary, ‘Flying Sheilas’.

The Australian story documentary, ‘Flying Sheilas’ tells the unique tales of seven Australian female commercial pilots and one air force pilot; depicting their extraordinary flying careers and the visual spectacle of where they were fortunate enough to live and work in Australia and beyond.

Nancy Bird Walton generously gave her time to participate in the making of ‘Flying Sheilas’. Her love of aviation, particularly supporting women in aviation, her humour, inspiration and enthusiasm for life and aviation is clearly obvious to all those involved in the making of the film and obvious in her performance on screen.

Nancy Bird Walton was a legendary figure in not only aviation, but an icon in Australian history.
