I’ve run out of ‘clever titles’ for how great AVATAR is doing…

It’s easy for a lot of people to say NOW that they “always knew” that AVATAR would make so much money, or that it would beat TITANIC’s records, but the truth is that nobody really saw this coming, as only 8% of you thought the film would gross over $600M back on December 20th when we asked you that very question in our MOVIE POLL. In fact, most of you (60%) thought that it would make between $300-400M. Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards were handed out on Sunday night and there were plenty of surprises. AVATAR was the big winner taking Best Motion Picture and Best Director for James Cameron. THE HANGOVER upset critical fave 500 DAYS OF SUMMER to take the Best Picture, Musical or Comedy and both Sandra Bullock and Robert Downey, Jr. were surprise winners. Five weeks at #1 and counting…

Uhhhhhm…for those people who didn’t think James Cameron’s AVATAR would ever beat James Cameron’s TITANIC as the highest-grossing movie of all-time…think again!!! After only 5 weeks of release, AVATAR has grossed over $1.6 BILLION worldwide, while the TITANIC record stands at $1.8 BILLION. Yeah, it’s “only” $200M off the mark and something tells me that’s a done deal and then some at this point! Coincidentally enough, the last film to remain at the #1 spot for five weeks in a row was TITANIC, which stayed at #1 for 15 weeks in a row back in 1997-1998.  Read More »

Australia Day Long Weekend

Office Hours on the Australia Day long weekend.

Following in the great Australian tradition of enjoying a long weekend, we at the Cooroy office have decided that Australia Day should mean a long weekend so that staff may honour the holiday and return refreshed for a full year ahead.!!

We are closing the office on Monday 25th January followed by the public holiday on 26th January!!

So that means the Cooroy Head Office will be closed from 5pm, Friday 22nd January and re-opening on Wednesday, 27th January at 9am.

Modest returns for Pay TV movies

More Australians watched Pay TV than any other television network last year — although movies do not appear to be much of an audience draw.

According to figures issued by the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association, Pay TV channels accounted for over 22 percent of all metropolitan viewing in 2009, putting it ahead of the other Free To Air networks.

However, that percentage is based on viewing across all Pay TV channels and audiences remain relatively small for individual programs. Read More »
