‘Yes Man’ tops weekend box office

Bad weather takes toll on frame

The weekend box office got iced by terrible weather, and the result was anything but a merry start for Jim Carrey laffer “Yes Man” and Will Smith drama “Seven Pounds.”

Warner Bros.’ “Yes Man,” grossed $18.2 million from 3,434 runs to win the crown, while “Seven Pounds” grossed $16 million from 2,758 playdates, according to Rentrak. Both titles were expected to come in at least $5 million higher. Read More »

Redbox Enters 7-Eleven, Airports, Gas Stations

DVD rental kiosk operator Redbox has quietly begun installing units in 2,600 7-Eleven convenience stores nationwide, in addition to select airports and gas stations.

A spokesperson confirmed the Chicago-based company, which operates 12,000 kiosks, signed an agreement with 7-Eleven in November, with installation slated to continue through 2009. Read More »

EzyDVD collapse as business is put up for sale

The receivers of failed entertainment retailer EzyDVD have started the process of looking for a buyer for the chain and say there has already been strong interest from potential buyers.

Receiver David Kidman from Ferrier Hodgson’s Adelaide office says he will take expressions of interest through to 9 January 2009. He hopes the longer-than-usual expression of interest process will assist potential buyers who might be away during the Christmas break. Read More »
